Champions League Twenty20 schedule finalised

Champions League Twenty20 schedule finalised

Friday - Oct 24, 2008
Televisionpoint.com Correspondent | Mumbai
The schedule and groupings for the inaugural Champions League Twenty20 season were finalised on October 23 at the inaugural Twenty20 Champions Awards, which have been presented to the best performers from the domestic leagues of the constituent countries of Champions League.

ESPN Star Sports announced at the event that music legend A R Rahman would be composing the official anthem for Champions League Twenty20. Also present at the event were Sharad Pawar, president-elect, ICC; Lalit Modi, chairman, Champions League Twenty20; IS Bindra, principal advisor, CC and president, PCA; Manu Sawhney, managing director, ESPN Star Sports; and cricket stars from the past and present Indian and Australian teams, among others.

Lalit Modi said, "The performances by these cricketers have captured the imagination of audiences worldwide and added to the popularity of the game, bringing in colossal increase in the fan following globally. I would like to congratulate all the winners and hope that these awards will inspire domestic cricketers worldwide to perform even better and aid in taking the immensely popular Twenty20 format to the next level."

Manu Sawhney says, "Champions League Twenty20 is premium, aspirational, truly world class and the highest honor the game has to offer. In our mind, it is to cricket what A R Rahman is to music. And we are proud to announce that the legend will now compose the official anthem for Champions League Twenty20. This anthem will reverberate not just in India but will transcend all language barriers across the global cricket fraternity."

Kiwi wicketkeeper Brendon McCullum, Australian southpaw Shaun Marsh, English batsman Graham Napier, Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik, ace speedster Sohail Tanvir, South Africans Yusuf Abdullah and Charl Langeveldt, Knight Riders' all-rounder Laxmi Ratan Shukla and Middlesex big hitter Tyron Henderson were felicitated for their electrifying performances in domestic Twenty20 competitions leading into the Champions League T20 event.

The inaugural edition of the Champions League Twenty20 will offer teams $ 6 million as prize money, which will be shared between the teams and their players. The governing council of the event, together with its founding cricket boards, believes that the significant prize money to be shared by teams and players will ensure that the benefits of the event will foster cricket's development.

SHAUM TAIT AND SHANE WATSON WILL BACK TO RAJASTHAN ROYALS

Watson, however, is expected to join the Royals for the last five matches whereas Tanveer will have to sit out as he could come in only in case of an injury to a player as the Pakistani players were not permitted by their government to travel to India for the tournament in view of escalating tensions between the two countries in the post-26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.

Key players’ absence will hurt Rajasthan Royals (Team Profile)

Cape Town, April 16 (IANS) Rajasthan Royals skipper Shane Warne is conscious of the fact that it would not be easy for his side to repeat last year’s sensational feat of winning the Indian Premier League without two key players Sohail Tanveer and Shane Watson in the second edition, starting here Saturday.
The legendary leg-spinner made a specific reference to the loss of the two all-rounders who had played crucial roles in the team’s triumph. Watson was the Player of the Tournament and Tanveer was the leading wicket-taker.

Watson and Tanveer will be ranging against each other in a one-day series between Australia and Pakistan in Dubai and Abu Dhabi next week.

The Royals, surprisingly, dropped a bombshell Wednesday by deciding to omit India player Mohammad Kaif along with five others to prune the squad. The team management stated that Kaif’s only chance of returning to the side is if any player is injured.

Kaif, who was bought for $675,000 — the team’s highest paid player — was dropped on the basis of his last year’s form, scoring 176 runs in 16 matches at an average of 16, ignoring his utility as a livewire in the field and also his good form in the Ranji Trophy last season.

The other players dropped are Dinesh Salunkhe, Paras Dogra, Anup Revandkar, Srideep Mangela, Ashraf Makda and Azhar Malik. Salunkhe was the legspinner who was included in the 2008 squad through a TV talent-hunt show.

The team will once again rely heavily on Warne, whose captaincy was a revelation as he moulded a bunch of youngsters into a winning combination.

South African skipper Graeme Smith will be a pillar of strength while T20 specialist Yusuf Pathan has proved to be a matchwinner with his clean strikes. They have another T20 specialist in South African Tyron Henderson. The Royals shelled out $650,000 for the hard-hitting batsman who also bowls medium-fast.

Warne has backed an 18-year-old rookie pace sensation Kamran Khan from Uttar Pradesh as the player to watch out for.

Kamran, who is yet to play a first class cricket, gave a good account of himself in a practice match as he bowled Cape Cobras Justin Ontong with a yorker.

Rajasthan Royals will face Kings XI Punjab in the opening match Saturday.

Squad: Shane Warne (captain), Yusuf Pathan, Rob Quiney, Mahesh Rawat, Atul Sharma, Amit Singh, Graeme Smith, Shaun Tait, Siddharth Trivedi, Paul Valthaty, Shane Watson Pushkaraj Chavan, Abdulahad Malik, Abhishek Raut, Gajendra Singh, Aditya Angle, Swapnil Asnodkar, Lee Carseldine, Siddharth Chitnis, Raiphi Gomez, Shane Harwood, Tyron Henderson, Ravindra Jadeja, Kamran Khan, Dimitri Mascarenhas, Mohammed Arif, Parag More, Morne Morkel, Naman Ojha, Munaf Patel, Niraj Patel.

Dale Steyn thrilled with SA hosting IPL

Durban: South Africa pace spearhead Dale Steyn is excited about the Indian Premier League coming to town and feels it will increase cricket's popularity in a country where the game has to jostle for space with rugby and football.

"Imagine what this will do for the youngsters of my country," Steyn said.

"When I was growing up, there were no World Cups in South Africa. I was excited just by the opportunity to watch Jonty Rhodes diving all over the place on television.

"Now the kids of South Africa have a chance to go down to their local grounds and watch the best players in the world playing each other. There is already a real buzz in the country after the Test series against Australia," said the pacer who will turn out for Bangalore Royal Challengers.

With election dates clashing with the IPL, organisers had to shift the tournament out of India and yesterday South Africa was confirmed as venue for the Twenty20 league.

Steyn, though, was unsure whether the glitz and glamour that was part of the inaugural year could be replicated here at such short notice.

"It will be interesting to see what can be achieved at such short notice," the 25-year-old said.

"The reception was amazing last year. We were really treated like rock stars everywhere we went," he added.

Rajasthan Royals 164 for 7 (Yusuf 56) beat Chennai Super Kings 163 for 5 (Raina 43, Yusuf 3-22) by three wickets
Pakistan's Sohail Tanvir hit the winning run from the final ball of the innings to seal the victory.
Eight city-based franchises took part in the Twenty20 series, with the world's top players joining home-grown stars and novice Indian players.
A total of ?368m was spent on the teams by Indian investors.
In the final, Chennai batted first and made 163-5 from their 20 overs, with 21-year-old Suresh Raina top-scoring with 43 and Yusuf Pathan taking 3-22 for the Royals.

Creating A Bootable Portable Windows XP/Vista (WinPe) On A USB Flash Drive

Need For A Bootable and Portable Windows

When your computer would not boot due to problems with Windows system files, which could have been caused by a malfunctioning hard disk or a viral infection, wouldn't it be cool to have your computer boot by simply inserting a flash drive?

When friends and relatives ask you to fix their computers at their homes, wouldn't it be nice to have your troubleshooting software tools right inside your pocket?

If you're answer is yes, read on and we'll go through the various steps to successfully create a bootable Windows on a flash drive.

What is Windows PE (Pre-installation Environment)?

Microsoft Windows PE Version 2.0 is a small(around 50mb), free, stripped-down Windows Vista Operating System that ships Microsoft's Windows Vista. It has limited functionalities but it can be customized to include a graphical shell and be stuffed with all sort of components to make it a full-pledge(almost) operating system.

What We Need First

1. A computer installed with Windows XP or Vista
2. Microsoft's Windows Automated Installation Kit
3. A USB flash drive with at least 500mb

Get Windows Automated Installation Kit (WAIK) Here

Windows Automated Installation Kit (WAIK)
It's free but needs Genuine Windows Validation in order to download.

Overview Of The Procedures

WARNING: Most of the steps will require you to work with the Windows command prompt. No Graphical User Interface(GUI). You will need to type in the different commands. If you're not comfortable with that, see the external links below for projects that uses GUI's in creating WinPE.

AFTER BEING WARNED, I'LL ASSURE YOU, IT'S NOT REALLY THAT HARD!!!

All we have to is:
1. Format the USB flash drive
2. Download and install WAIK
3. Copy the WinPe files to a temporary directory
4. Copy the contents of the temporary directory to the flash drive.

That's all. We're done and ready to boot on our USB flash drive!!!

Step One: Format The USB Flash Drive

Note: Formatting the flash drive will delete ALL its contents

1. OPEN A COMMAND PROMPT WINDOW
a. Click START/RUN
b. Type on the Run box:
cmd
c. Click OK

Step Two: Download And Install WAIK

Run the downloaded WAIK install file and follow the instructions on the screen.

Step Three: Copy WinPE Files To A Temporary Directory

1. Click START/PROGRAM/Microsoft Windows AIK/Windows PE Tools Command Prompt.

2. At the command prompt, type:

copype x86 c:\winpe

or

copype amd64 c:\winpe

or

copype ia64 c:\winpe

depending on the type of the computer where you plan to use WinPE. AMD/Intel x86, AMD64-bit, or Intel64-bit

3. Press the enter key.

Windows will copy the WinPE files to the temporary file "winpe"
